No one is perfect. Practically everyone has a skincare routine and while we all have the best intentions, sometimes we sabotage our skin without realizing it. Here is a common skin care mistakes—and how to fix it.

You’re Using Too Many Products At Once

Experiencing a reaction to a skin care product, but you not sure which one? Stop everything other than gentle basics! We recommend using a gentle cleanser and a moisturizer for sensitive skin, like our Hypoallergenic Hydrating Gel Cream. Don’t start reintroducing more products until your skin has calmed down and returned to normal. Sometimes the culprit at the source of the reaction is an individual product. But, oftentimes your skin is having a negative reaction to receiving too many new products at once. This is why we never recommend adding more than one new product to your routine at a time. Always do a patch test before applying a new product to your face.

Introduce New Products Slowly

Issues like breakouts, redness, or even burning sensations after trying a new skin care product are not uncommon. Patience is key when it comes to skin care. Don’t start adding products back into your routine until you’re completely sure that your skin is recovered. If you’re insistent on adding more products back into your routine, we suggest adding them in one at a time. Introduce a new product every two weeks. Starting with the gentler items – like those meant for hydrating and moisturizing. Then, if you’re confident your skin can tolerate everything, start to add in products with active ingredients. This method will allow you to single out any one product causing an adverse reaction. Knowing what ingredients or formulas your skin doesn’t tolerate will be a lifesaver (and money saver) in the long run.
